The G8 (now G7) Summit brings together leaders from the most powerful countries in the world. Their aim? To try to tackle global problems by discussing big issues and planning what action to take. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) had to stage this globally significant event at Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, a venue with limited mobile and internet infrastructure. World leaders and delegates were expecting, the world’s media would be descending and the world would be watching.
The FCO approached us to manage all the production and technical aspects of delivering the summit. This prestigious event was held over two days and required intricate planning and expert execution. We provided the media filing facilities and acted as host broadcaster, providing pooled television pictures for national and international broadcasters covering the event. The Summit was also tasked with being economically beneficial to Northern Ireland, so over 40% of our suppliers were sourced locally.
