WHEN
TEACHING
SAVES
LIVES
Sometimes you have the privilege of encountering a person who doesn’t just changes lives, she saves them. Maggie MacDonnell is more than just a teacher to the children in Salluit, Northern Arctic, Quebec. Working in a remote Inuit town, with students who take their own children to day-care before coming to class, and in a community suffering a suicide crisis, Maggie focuses on helping her students build resilience, hope and self-belief. We filmed with Maggie as part of the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, which sees the winner awarded US$1 million. During the campaign, we met and filmed with teachers around the world, from Brazil, Jamaica, Kenya and Spain, telling extraordinary stories about the power of education.
